Bicyclist killed in San Jose hit-and-run identified

The Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office has identified a bicyclist killed in a hit-and-run crash in San Jose last Thursday as 54-year-old transient Richard Romero.
Romero was on a bicycle traveling west in the bicycle lane near the intersection of Mabury and North King roads when a vehicle struck him.
The suspect then fled, according to police.
Officers were dispatched around 2:30 a.m. when they found Romero in critical condition and determined he should be taken to a hospital for his injuries.
Romero was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to police.
Police said anyone with information about the case should call 911 or contact Detective Brian McMahon of the department’s Traffic Investigations Unit at (408) 277-4654.
