A kidnapping suspect appeared in a Redwood City courtroom Monday after he was arrested Friday in connection with the 1995 kidnapping of a 9-year-old Hillsborough resident, county prosecutors said.
Kevin Lin, 68, of Southern California, spoke through a Mandarin interpreter and said all his money is in Taiwan.
Prosecutors said Lin was appointed an attorney and is scheduled to appear in court again on Dec. 19 for the appearance of his attorney and for a preliminary hearing.
Lin is being held in a San Mateo County jail on $5 million bail.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Karen Guidotti said if Lin posts bail he’ll have to surrender his passport within 24 hours.
Police said they made the arrest after acting on information provided by the U.S. Department of State.
