Police said a 17-year-old boy shot Monday afternoon near a high school in Concord has died.
At 1:32 p.m., police were called to a shooting near Olympic Continuation High School at 2730 Salvio St.
Police said after school let out for the day, a person in a black 4-door sedan got out of the vehicle and approached a group of people who were off campus. That person then shot at the boy who was in the group, while the others ran for safety.
Concord police Cpl. Christopher Blakely said:
“The suspect targeted this victim. … He singled-out our victim and shot him multiple times.”
The 17-year-old was a student at the high school.
Police said the teen ran onto the high school campus where a janitor found him and then staff members, paramedics and police attempted to treat him for his wounds.
The teen was pronounced dead at a hospital. His name won’t be released until his family is notified.
Police are still investigating a motive in the shooting but it does not appear to be gang-related, according to Blakely.
