Fatal Willow Pass crash blamed on alleged drunk driver

A woman driving in Concord Sunday night was killed when a suspected drunk driver veered into her lane and crashed into her car head-on, according to police.

The crash happened when the Concord woman, whose name was not immediately released, was driving a Toyota Camry west on Willow Pass Road near the Kinne Bridge at 11:57 p.m., Concord police said.

A drunk driver in a Dodge Journey SUV was headed in the opposite direction. He crossed into the oncoming lane and hit the Camry.

The woman driving the Camry was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger, a Bay Point resident, was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The Dodge driver suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital. He was arrested there on suspicion of drunk driving.

Police closed Willow Pass Road for four hours early this morning to investigate. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has any further information has been asked to contact traffic investigator Lee Lawrence at (925) 671-5097.
