Further information has come out of Scottsdale, Arizona involving the arrest of Athletics catcher Bruce Maxwell.
Maxwell was arrested Saturday night for allegedly pointing a gun at a food delivery person.
Maxwell, who became the first MLB player to take part in the protest of police brutality in September, was inebriated and making anti-police statements, reports say according to Arizona’s ABC15 News.
According to allegations, Maxwell opened the door to his home brandishing a silver handgun before pointing it at the head of the delivery person, and lowering the gun but keeping it out while receiving the food.
After the interaction, the delivery driver returned to her car and immediately called the police, who arrived on the scene at around 6 p.m., according to AZCentral, finding Maxwell, who exhibited signs of intoxication including a heavy alcohol scent on his breath, in possession of a silver 9-mm handgun.
By Monday morning, Maxwell, who denied pointing the gun at the delivery person though he did have it holstered at his hip, appeared to have posted his $10,000 bail.
The A’s issued a press release Sunday, saying the organization wanted to gather further information before further commented, but said:
“We were disappointed to learn of the allegations. We take this situation and ongoing investigation seriously.”
