Man injured jumping into freeway traffic

Two vehicles struck a man on southbound Interstate Highway 280 in San Jose Monday afternoon after witnesses saw him allegedly jump out of one vehicle parked on the shoulder and into the highway lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred at about 2:30 p.m. near the McLaughlin Avenue off-ramp from southbound Highway 280.

CHP officials said the man was struck by a maroon Chevrolet Suburban and a white Honda Accord, although investigators have not confirmed which vehicle struck him first. It is being considered a major-injury collision at this time, according to the CHP.

A Sig-alert was briefly issued at 2:52 p.m. because the far right lane was blocked, but it was canceled a little more than 10 minutes later at 3:05 p.m.

No further information was immediately available.
