Wrong-way driver dies after I-880 crash
The driver of an SUV that was heading the wrong way on Interstate Highway 880 in Fremont early Wednesday morning died after his vehicle crashed into the highway's center divider.

The driver of an SUV that was heading the wrong way on Interstate Highway 880 in Fremont early Wednesday morning died after his vehicle crashed into the highway’s center divider, California Highway Patrol officials said.
The incident was first reported at 2:19 a.m. on northbound Highway 880 north of Auto Mall Parkway.
A caller told a CHP dispatcher that the driver of a black 2008 Mercedes ML350 was heading south on the highway’s northbound lanes. As CHP officers were on their way, the Mercedes crashed.
Emergency crews with the Fremont Fire Department also responded and pronounced the driver, the Mercedes’ sole occupant, dead at the scene.
His identity has not been released.
