Third grader packs loaded gun to school

An 8-year-old boy allegedly brought a loaded 9mm firearm in his backpack to his San Ramon elementary school Tuesday, according to police.

The boy is a third grade student at Twin Creeks Elementary School, located at 2785 Marsh Drive, police said.

After bringing the gun to campus, the boy allegedly showed it to another student. That student later told a parent, who reported the incident to the school’s staff.

The gun was never brandished or used to threaten anyone.

Officers were able to speak with the boy and his parents at their home and located the firearm still in the boy’s backpack. No other firearms were found at the home, police said.

The boy is facing disciplinary action, according to a letter sent to parents today from San Ramon Valley Unified School District spokeswoman Elizabeth Graswich.

“Please take time to remind your student that weapons, of any kind, are strictly prohibited on our campus. Please help us share the message that ‘if you see something, or know something, say something,'” the statement read.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call San Ramon police at (925) 973-2779.
