Two firefighters have suffered injuries while battling a wildfire that has burned 125 acres in the area of Bear Creek Canyon Road in unincorporated Santa Cruz County, a Cal Fire division chief said Tuesday.
The Bear Fire started around 10:30 p.m. Monday, according to Cal Fire.
One firefighter suffered a broken wrist and facial lacerations in a fall and is being flown out of the fire area, Cal Fire Division Chief Angela Bernheisel said.
Another firefighter suffered smoke inhalation injuries, Bernheisel said.
About 250 crews are battling the blaze, which was 0 percent contained as of shortly before 7:30 a.m., she said.
Bernheisel said fire crews will begin attacking the fire from the air once it is light out this morning.
All residents are believed to have evacuated safely and are staying at two evacuation centers — Boulder Creek Elementary School at 400 W. Lomond St. in Boulder Creek and the Zayante Fire Department at 7700 E.
Zayante Road in Felton, Santa Cruz County sheriff’s officials said.
