The driver of a pickup truck appeared to drive into a group of four cyclists this morning in unincorporated Marin County and all four cyclists went to hospitals, California Highway Patrol officials said.
Officers were called just before noon to a collision on Point Reyes-Petaluma Road just west of Hicks Valley Road.
The initial caller said that four cyclists were involved in a collision but later officers learned a vehicle was also involved and its driver drove away from the scene.
Witnesses told officers that a dark blue Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling west on Point Reyes-Petaluma Road when the driver appeared to swerve to the right and intentionally drive into the group of cyclists.
All of the cyclists were injured and one was flown to a hospital because of the extent of his injuries.
CHP officials are asking for help finding the truck that was involved in the collision and its driver.
CHP officials described the truck as an older model – perhaps 10 years old – midnight blue Dodge Ram crew cab pickup truck.
A video obtained by CHP officers shows the truck had black rims and was slightly raised. It appears the wheels protruded out past the body of the truck and there was no license plate mounted on the front.
CHP officials the license plate may have been in the front windshield. The truck likely has damage on its right side.
According to CHP officials, the driver was a white man, 20 to 35 years old with stubble on his face, brown hair and a crew cut.
The truck was last seen traveling west on Point Reyes-Petaluma Road past the French Marin Cheese Factory.
Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call the CHP dispatch office at (707) 551-4100. Callers are asked to tell the dispatcher the call is about the collision on Point Reyes-Petaluma Road or reference log No. 1346.
