Milpitas police are currently engaged in a standoff with a man at the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant at 75 S. Main St., according to a Milpitas police spokesman.
Milpitas police Lt. Raj Maharaj said KFC employees contacted police after the man started banging on the walls and yelling in the bathroom around 6:54 p.m. When police arrived on scene, they heard what sounded like a gunshot and evacuated the restaurant.
Maharaj said Milpitas SWAT has established a perimeter and negotiators are currently on scene trying to establish contact with the man.
Fremont police are on scene letting Milpitas police use their Bearcat, and San Jose police were at one point assisting on the scene as well.
Maharaj said:
“Hopefully we can resolve this without anyone getting injured or hurt.”
