A’s to donate to Harvey relief during series with Astros

The Oakland Athletics will donate $1 from every ticket sold for next weekend’s series against the Houston Astros to the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

The four-game series, which includes a doubleheader on Saturday, begins Friday, Sept. 8 at the Oakland Coliseum, with each ticket, including those already purchased, amounting to a donation to the American Red Cross, the club announced via press release Friday. In addition, all proceeds from the 50/50 raffle during each game will be donated.

Former-Astro and current-Athletic Jed Lowrie and his wife Melissa has committed to matching those donations up to $25,000.

When purchasing a ticket to the Athletics-Astros series online, fans will be given the option to donate an additional $10 to the Houston relief efforts.

Donations can also be made, in accompaniment with the Lowries furthered efforts, at youCaring.com/Lowrie.

The total cost of repairing the city of Houston following last week’s hurricane are estimated upwards of $50 billion.
