San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee is calling on The City’s residents, corporate partners and philanthropic organizations to help donate to the Greater Houston Community Foundation and the Houston Independent School District Foundation in the wake of Hurricane Harvey hitting the city of Houston.
The storm has already set a record of the most rainfall hitting land by a tropical storm in the U.S, according to the National Weather Service in Houston.
Lee said in a statement:
“As the heartbreaking destruction from Hurricane Harvey continues to unfold, the people of San Francisco are ready to act and support our fellow Americans in their time of need. San Francisco is a city painfully familiar with natural disasters, so when we witness these events take place, we feel a special obligation to help.”
Lee added:
“This past weekend, we saw our city come together in the spirit of unity and compassion. We will continue that powerful display of compassion by helping our fellow Americans in Houston.”
On Tuesday, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump landed in Corpus Christi to meet with local and state officials.
The Houston Police Department announced also Tuesday that Sgt. Steve Perez had died while on duty when his vehicle entered a high-level of water. Perez had been with the police department for 34 years.
