Raging driver allegedly rams motorcyclist

A Novato man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of intentionally hitting a motorcyclist with his car in an alleged road rage incident in San Rafael, according to police.

Officers responding to the area of the San Rafael Transit Center at 850 Tamalpais Ave., determined that the collision was not accidental.

Witness statements indicated that a suspect, later identified as 44-year-old John Sinclair, made a right turn onto westbound Third Street from Hetherton Street, against a red light, nearly striking a motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist apparently knocked on the window of the vehicle and said something to the driver at another intersection, then slapped one of the side mirrors – so the driver backed up, steered toward the motorcycle and accelerated.

The rider was injured, according to police.

Sinclair was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and booked into county jail.
