Pilot sustains minor injuries in Reid-Hillview crash

A pilot suffered minor injuries when their plane’s nose wheel collapsed and the plane crashed Sunday afternoon at San Jose’s Reid-Hillview Airport, fire and Federal Aviation Administration officials said.

Firefighters were called by air traffic controllers at 12:48 p.m. and when firefighters arrived the Piper PA-28’s nose was on the runway, Capt. Brad Cloutier said.

The pilot was treated at the airport for minor injuries and released. No one else was on board the plane.

Cloutier said inbound and outbound traffic was halted for about 30 minutes. The plane sustained significant damage, FAA spokesman Allen Kenitzer said.

Investigators with the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will be investigating the crash.
