The California Highway Patrol is seeking a person of interest in the hit and run crash on the Highway 4 Solano Way onramp in Concord in which two San Pablo children died Friday night.
The CHP has identified a person of interest in the collision, the CHP said. The person of interest is 35-year-old Lemuel Sirvonn Wilson, Jr., according to the CHP.
Witnesses to the crash described a driver who fled the scene of the crash as a black male adult with a lanky build, about 5’10” to 6’1″ tall, with short black hair and wearing a gray or dirty white shirt, blue jeans and black shoes, the CHP said.
Around 10:55 p.m., a silver 2004 Infiniti sedan was traveling westbound on Highway 4 toward the Solano Way offramp. At the same time, a gray 2006 Dodge Durango was traveling on the onramp from Solano Way to Highway 4 westbound, which is adjacent to the offramp, the CHP said.
The driver of the Infiniti drove off the roadway, slamming into the left rear of the Durango, the CHP said. The collision was so severe the Durango was pushed to the edge of the onramp and the Infiniti flew over the dividing fence and into the parking lot of Kinders, stopping just feet from the front door, the CHP said.
A 10-year-old boy and a 5-year-old boy were ejected from the Durango and died at the scene, the CHP said. A 3-month-old restrained in a car seat suffered major injuries and was taken to Children’s Hospital Oakland, according to the CHP.
The childrens’ 35-year-old mother sustained major injuries and was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, the CHP said.
According to witnesses, the driver of the Infiniti fled on foot across the highway, running toward a nearby drive-in movie theater on Solano Way at Arnold Industrial Place, the CHP said.
Witnesses said the driver was covered with blood, with injuries to his head and face, the CHP said.
The CHP asks that members of the public who know the person of interest in the crash or may have seen him at the collision scene call the CHP Golden Gate Communications Center at (707) 551-4100. Callers should say they have information for CHP Contra Costa and Officer Odom.
