A fire early Sunday morning caused more than $1 million in damage to a San Francisco playground, fire and recreation and park officials said.
The fire was reported at 12:35 a.m. at Koret Children’s Quarter Playground on the east end of Golden Gate Park. No one was injured.
Recreation and Park officials said the playground was renovated for $3.8 million and reopened in 2007.
An inspection of the playground will have to be done before park officials can say when the playground will reopen.
The playground includes a carousel that was built in 1914, installed in Golden Gate Park in 1940 and closed in 1977. The carousel was restored and reopened in 1984.
