CHP seeks stiff charges in officer’s beating

The California Highway Patrol is recommending the Solano County District Attorney’s Office to file attempted murder and other assault charges against a San Jose man who allegedly beat a female CHP officer Saturday.

The CHP also is recommending that Gary Coslovich, 49, be charged with assault with a deadly weapon, battery on a police officer, willfully resisting and causing serious injury to a peace officer, attempting to remove or take a police officer’s firearm and violently resisting a police officer in the performance of their duty.

According to the CHP, it received multiple calls about an errant driver in a white Ford F-250 truck causing multiple collisions on westbound Interstate Highway 80 near American Canyon.

A Solano County area CHP officer caught up to the disabled truck in the No. 1 lane on Highway 80 in Vallejo around 8:45 a.m. Coslovich allegedly jumped out of the truck and punched the CHP officer causing her to fall in the roadway. He then allegedly kicked her repeatedly while she was on the ground.

Several good samaritans who saw the assault stopped and pulled Coslovich away from the CHP officer. A nearby Solano County area CHP officer helped subdue Coslovich and arrested him, the CHP said.

The CHP officer suffered cuts, bruises and numbness and was taken to a hospital but she has been released and is recovering, the CHP said.

The Solano County District Attorney’s Office had not yet filed charges against Coslovich as of this afternoon.
