Four people are dead this morning in San Francisco after a person entered a UPS facility in the Potrero Hill neighborhood and began shooting people inside.
San Francisco Assistant Police Chief Toney Chaplin said the suspected shooter was in a UPS uniform, but did not confirm if the suspect was a UPS employee at a press conference Wednesday morning. He said police believe the shooter acted alone and the incident was not related to terrorism.

“This is a real tragedy.”
Chaplin said no officers fired their weapons. Police are still investigating whether or not there was a motive.
Two shooting victims who survived are still in the hospital being treated for their injuries, said Chaplin.
Police responded to a call at 8:55 a.m. that several people were shot inside the UPS facility, according to SFPD.
A contact team found the suspect inside the facility with an assault pistol where he pointed the gun his head and discharged the weapon, said Chaplin. SFPD recovered two firearms at the scene.
Chaplin said police are unsure if the assault pistol was an automatic or semi-automatic weapon.
At 10:32 a.m., SFPD tweeted they had contained the incident and secured the facility. A shelter-in-place in area was then lifted an hour later.
Chaplin did not reveal the identities of the shooting victims or identity of the suspect at a Wednesday afternoon press conference.
SFPD is aware of many names floating around in the media, but will wait for confirmation from the San Francisco Medical Examiner, said Chaplin.
San Francisco police officers are interviewing dozens of witnesses inside the facility, including UPS employees.
Mayor Ed Lee offered his condolences and thoughts to the individuals and families affected by today’s shooting:
“We all know the familiar faces of our local UPS drivers and delivery persons. Today’s tragedy will be felt in every community served by these committed employees.”
UPS said in a statement:
“Our thoughts and prayers are with all those touched by this incident. To assist our employees during this time, UPS has made professional counseling available.”
UPS said they have 350 employees employed at the facility, which is an area packaging sorting hub and package delivery center.
In response to the shooting, the Red Cross said they are providing food and support at 100 Kansas St.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein issued a statement about the shooting, saying she:
“… was heartbroken to learn that yet another senseless act of gun violence has marred our wonderful city.”
Feinstein, who served as San Francisco’s mayor after the assassinations of then-Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk at City Hall in 1978, said Wednesday’s shooting led her to recall yet another mass workplace shooting in San Francisco, the one at 101 California St. in 1993 in which eight people died.
