A lockdown that was place Wednesday afternoon at Fairfield’s Travis Air Force Base has been lifted after emergency personnel on the base were unable to locate a shooter, Travis Air Force Base officials said.
At 5:05 p.m., officials at the base confirmed that they had responded earlier in the day to reports of gunshots at the Base Exchange, but called it a “false alarm.”
At about 4:15 p.m., police had said emergency personnel at the base were responding to a “real world” security incident, but didn’t elaborate, and asked the public to avoid the area.
Earlier this week, officials at the base had announced that a simulated security drill was scheduled to take place today and Thursday at the base.
It was not immediately clear if Wednesday’s incident was related to the already planned drill.
