Two die in Alameda rollover crash

Two people died and six were injured in a crash in the city of Alameda Monday morning, and the surrounding area is still closed to vehicle traffic, police said.

Officers responded to the area of Park Street and Lincoln Avenue at 8:01 a.m. after getting a 911 call reporting a rollover collision. They found two vehicles, a minivan and a full-size truck, according to police.

Seven people were in the truck, one of whom, a woman, died at the scene, police said. Another of the people in the truck was taken to Highland Hospital, where he died of his injuries.

The other five people in the truck were taken to the hospital with critical injuries, police said.

The only occupant of the minivan, a woman, was taken to the hospital with injuries that weren’t life-threatening, according to police.

The Alameda Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the incident. Based on witness accounts, speed appeared to be a factor in the crash, police said, though the investigation is in the preliminary stages and the primary factor hasn’t been determined.

Park Street is still closed to vehicles between Pacific and Santa Clara avenues, police said.
