Bruce Bochy sidelined after heart procedure

Giants manager Bruce Bochy underwent heart surgery Tuesday morning in San Diego and will miss San Francisco’s upcoming two-game series in Kansas City.

Bochy will not be in the dugout for the 2014 World Series rematch Tuesday and Wednesday against the Royals due to what the team describes as a “minor ablation procedure.”

After experiencing an atrial flutter, or abnormal heart rhythm, Bochy went into surgery to alleviate the discomfort.

Bochy is in the first season of a three-year contract extension. This procedure will make it the third straight season in which Bochy, 62, has dealt with some sort of heart-related issue.

In February of 2015, Bochy had stents inserted into his heart when he had felt discomfort during a during a physical. And last August, he missed a game in Miami after experiencing an irregular heartbeat.

Bochy is resting comfortably at home following the procedure and is expected to rejoin the ball club Friday for their series opener against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.

Bench coach Ron Wotus will be the manager serving while Bochy is away. This is Bochy’s 11th season as the Giants manager.
