Motorcyclist eluding police dies in crash

A man died Sunday evening after an officer-involved incident in Petaluma, according to police.
Officers responded to area of Adobe Creek Drive and South Ely Boulevard at 5:15 p.m. on reports of two motorcycles speeding up and down the streets.
Upon arrival, officers located the two motorcyclists near South Ely Boulevard and Frates Road, however as they were approached both bikes sped off heading south on Frates Road.
As the two motorists fled, an officer saw one of them lose control of their bike and crash. Police said the officer immediately began administering medical aid while an ambulance responded to the scene.
According to police, the second motorist drove back to the scene and was detained and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The motorist that crashed suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medical personnel, police said.
His name is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
The Sonoma County Law Enforcement Chiefs’ Association Employee-Involved Fatal Incident Protocol was contacted and the California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation.
