Sacramento River wave sends three to hospital

Three men were taken to a hospital because they may have suffered concussions when a large wave hit their boat Sunday afternoon in the Sacramento River near Antioch, a fire captain said.

The incident was reported at 12:18 p.m. near Sherman Island County Park, Montezuma Fire Protection District Capt. Lee Williams said.

Four people were in the boat and one person did not need to go to the hospital.

The four were heading south into the wind when a large wave caught them off guard and crashed into the boat. The wave was so strong that it shattered the windshield, Williams said.

“We had high winds at the time,” he said.

Some other boaters stopped and took the four to Sandy Beach County Park. From there the three were taken to a hospital as a precaution, according to Williams.
