A bomb threat closed Market Street for hours during Monday's commute, one of 20 incidents that targeted Jewish groups across the country.
The San Francisco offices of the Anti-Defamation League was evacuated for hours Monday afternoon after receiving a bomb threat, according to a statement the ADL issued Monday.
The threat was called in at 4:19 p.m., leading police to evacuate the facility and close down the 700 block of Market Street to traffic while officers searched the area.
Police cleared the scene and Market Street had reopened by 7:14 p.m., according to a statement from the San Francisco Police Department on Twitter.
There were at least 20 such threats called in to Jewish institutions across the country Monday, according to the ADL.
ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt said in a statement:
“One threat or evacuation is one too many, and yet we’ve now seen more than 20 incidents in a single day not just to ADL, but to children’s schools and community centers — and more than 90 incidents since the start of this year. … The level of threats and incidents is astounding, and must not stand. … We will do everything in our power to combat this wave of anti-Semitism.”
A threatening phone call was also received today at the Oshman Family Jewish Community Center in Palo Alto, prompting another evacuation at that location.
