Taylor Embree —son of 49ers assistant head coach and tight ends coach Jon Embree, hired last week — was named offensive quality control coach. He entered the NFL coaching ranks in 2016 as a defensive assistant with the Chiefs. Prior to his arrival in Kansas City, Embree spent the 2014 season as a graduate assistant for offense with UCLA.
The Denver native appeared in all 50 games during his four-year career from 2008-11 as a wide receiver at UCLA.
Mike LaFleur joins the 49ers after two seasons as an offensive assistant with the Falcons. He first entered the NFL in 2014 as an offensive coaching intern with the Browns.
Prior to his arrival in Cleveland, LaFleur was the offensive coordinator, quarterbacks and wide receivers coach at Davidson College in 2013. Prior to joining Davidson, he spent three seasons at Saint Joseph’s College. The Mount Pleasant, Michigan native was a team captain and three-time letter winner as a quarterback and safety at Elmhurst.
Mike McDaniel enters his first season as the 49ers’ run game specialist after spending the previous two seasons as an offensive assistant for the Falcons. He joined Atlanta after spending the 2014 season as the wide receivers coach for the Browns.
Prior to his arrival in Cleveland, McDaniel spent three seasons with the Washington Redskins, starting as an offensive assistant from 2011-12, before being promoted to wide receivers coach in 2013. McDaniel joined the Redskins after serving as the running backs coach for the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League for two seasons.
