A special promotion being offered this month at a Burlingame animal shelter is encouraging animal lovers to find their soul mates, regardless of age.
The Peninsula Humane Society & Society for the Prevention for Cruelty to Animals announced that its Lantos Center for Compassion, located at 1450 Rollins Road, has more than 30 senior animals available for adoption.
The elderly cats and dogs are available for waived adoption fees through the shelter’s Senior Sweethearts program, being offered through the end of the month.
The pets are considered seniors after about seven years of age.
Shelter director of adoptions and customer service Dan Hanley said in a statement:
“Age is just a number; our older cats and dogs have plenty of pep in their step and love in their hearts just for you.”
Senior animals make great pets because they’re often already equipped with basic obedience skills and have usually been house trained and socialized with other animals and people, and normally have a temperament that’s easier to read compared to a restless puppy or kitten, PHS/SPCA officials said.
Recently, a trio of close-knit elderly animals, a cat and two dogs, were all dropped off at the shelter overnight without any explanation.
The animals, named Babe, Rocky and Crybaby, are all seeking homes through the program.
