Coroner’s office identifies 19-year-old man shot by off-duty sheriff’s deputy

A 19-year-old man fatally shot by an off-duty Contra Costa County sheriff’s deputy Wednesday morning during an alleged home invasion robbery in Alameda has been identified as Marquez Warren, according to the Alameda County coroner’s bureau.

Warren, a Vallejo resident, was shot during an alleged robbery at a home in the 2000 block of Buena Vista Avenue at about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

The off-duty deputy who shot Warren was not injured, according to police. His identity has not been released.

Following the shooting, police had asked residents to shelter in place as they searched for additional suspects.

Police said Wednesday they believed another suspect involved in the robbery was still at large.

A GoFundMe page has been created to raise money for Warren’s family in the wake of his death. The site at https://www.gofundme.com/3bw1qu0 had raised nearly $6,000 as of Monday morning.
