Two in custody after alleged carjacking

Two suspects are in custody after an alleged carjacking in Oakland Thursday afternoon, according to police.

Officers responded to the 5100 block of Shafter Avenue at 4:37 p.m. to take a report, then spotted the vehicle in the 4800 block of Telegraph Avenue about 10 minutes later.

The driver failed to yield to a traffic stop, then led officers on a pursuit before crashing in the vicinity of Broadway Terrace and state Highway 13. A man and woman fled the scene on foot, police said.

Officers contacted the suspects after setting up a perimeter around the 5800 block of Pinewood Road. They surrendered without incident.

No one was injured, but two other vehicles were damaged during the chase.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call investigators at (510) 238-3326.
