Man dies after fiery crash

A man died early Monday morning in Salinas after his vehicle spun out of control and struck two trees before bursting into flames, police said.

At 1:31 a.m., Abraham Jesus Requena, 20, was driving east on East Boronda Road in a 2015 Lexus IS350. According to police, it appeared he was driving at an extremely high speed and lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle spun out of control, hit a curb, then struck a tree head-on, causing the engine to eject from the vehicle. The vehicle then spun around and struck another tree before erupting into flames, police said.

Investigators believe Requena died from the first impact.

According to police, there were no eyewitnesses and no evidence to suggest that another vehicle was involved. Police have not yet determined if alcohol was involved. The case is under investigation.
