Police will conduct a special patrol in Vallejo during Sunday’s Super Bowl game in an effort to prevent drinking and driving, police said.
Police and members of the state Office of Traffic Safety are teaming up for the “Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk” campaign, which aims to prevent impaired driving among Super Bowl revelers.
As part of the campaign’s law enforcement efforts, police, sheriff and California Highway Patrol officers will be on heightened alert before, during and after the game. Additional police officers will be deployed on special DUI patrols, looking to stop and arrest drivers showing signs of alcohol or drug impairment, police said.
A driver is considered alcohol-impaired when their blood alcohol concentration is .08 or higher, police said.
Police urge anyone who drinks to not drive and instead use alternative modes of transportation.
Vallejo police chief Andrew Bidou said:
“Fans who are impaired can secure a safe ride home by designating a sober driver, using public transportation, or calling a taxi or rideshare program.”
