Community members and officers quickly rallied together to assist two girls after a thief took money, lemons and a personal item from a lemonade stand they set up in Petaluma Sunday morning, according to police.
At about 10:10 a.m., officers responded to a report of a theft at a home in the 400 block of Pleasant Hill Avenue North, police said.
A woman told officers her 9-year-old daughter and her daughter’s friend had set up a lemonade stand on the sidewalk.
When the girls went inside the home for briefly, they returned to find that someone had taken their lemons, $10 in cash from their sales and a stuffed giraffe toy, according to police.
After learning about the theft, The Toyworks store donated a stuffed alligator. Additionally, a patron at the store who overheard the story donated $20.
Meanwhile, the local Whole Foods grocery store donated a crate of lemons. Officers, police dispatchers and the police union also collectively donated $50 to the girls, police said.
According to police, the girls were happy and thankful for the donations.
