Police said no one was injured when a car hit a gas meter causing a gas leak Sunday afternoon in downtown Martinez.
The crash was reported at about 2 p.m. in the 600 block of Ward Street after the driver of the car accidentally put the vehicle into drive, Sgt. Steve Gaul said.
It took about 1.5 hours to shut off the gas. The driver of the car remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
Gaul said officers do not suspect the driver was intoxicated.
As of 4:40 p.m., six customers were without gas and States Coffee & Mercantile, which is in the building where the crash occurred, was closed, Gaul said.
The 600 block of Ward Street will be closed to pedestrian and vehicular traffic until about 6:30 p.m., according to police.
