San Francisco will receive $2.9 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to take part in a program aimed at ending youth homelessness, city officials announced Friday.
San Francisco was chosen to participate in HUD’s Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program, one of ten communities nationwide to receive funding through the program.
In 2015, a survey of the number of homeless youth in the city found that 1,569 children were unaccompanied and unsheltered in San Francisco.
Another count will be done on Jan. 26 when the city completes its 2017 Homeless Point-in-time count and survey, according to city officials.
