The man who coached Derek Carr the most is now his offensive coordinator.
Todd Downing was officially promoted to offensive coordinator Saturday, and Jake Peetz will serve in his old capacity as quarterbacks coach.
The move was widely expected after Bill Musgrave’s two-year contract expired and no new agreement was offered by the team, and the Raiders said in a press release:
“Carr has developed remarkably under Downing’s tutelage, earning consecutive Pro Bowl selections and setting numerous franchise passing records.”
Downing entered the league as offensive quality control coach for the Vikings in 2005, and worked for St. Louis and Detroit in a multitude of capacities before earning a promotion to Lions quarterbacks coach in 2011.

Peetz is a lesser-known commodity who boarded the Raiders ship as an offensive assistant in 2015 and served in different capacities with Washington and Jacksonville. This is his first stint as quarterbacks coach.
