A 96-year-old woman was killed when a pickup truck driver crashed into her Toyota sedan while she was driving through a Fremont intersection Thursday morning, police said.
The crash was reported at 6:56 a.m. at the intersection of Fremont Boulevard and Parish Avenue, according to police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques.
The woman was headed west on Parish Avenue and was hit on the driver’s side by a pickup truck headed north on Fremont Boulevard.
The Toyota driver was trapped in the car briefly. Despite medical aid, she was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The woman’s name has not been released. Police said she is a Fremont resident.
The pickup driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, police said.
Fremont Boulevard was closed between Peralta Boulevard and Central Avenue in that area while for the investigation and reopened at about 10:30 a.m.
Anyone with information about the crash has been asked to contact Fremont traffic investigators at (510) 790-6760 or to email Officer Jesse Hartman at Jhartman@fremont.gov.
