Two men killed in separate shootings in San Francisco on New Year’s Day have been identified by the medical examiner’s office.
Officers responded at 2:13 a.m. Sunday to a shooting reported in the area of 26th and Shotwell streets and found Ernesto Rosales, a 21-year-old San Francisco resident, suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest.
Rosales was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.
Later Sunday morning, officers responded at about 11:25 a.m. to a shooting reported in the area of Third Street and Oakdale Avenue.
Michell Smith, 35, of San Francisco, had been shot in the face and later died at a hospital, police said.
Police said the homicides, San Francisco’s first and second of 2017, are not believed to be related.
No arrests have been announced in either case and no suspect information was immediately available from police.
