Santa Clara Co. shelter beds increase as temps fall

An inclement weather episode has been declared starting this evening and lasting through Wednesday morning for southern Santa Clara County, county officials said.

The declaration means that the number of beds available at the Gilroy Armory Winter Shelter at 8490 Wren Ave. in Gilroy will increase by 50 to 180.

The 50 extra beds will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, according to county officials.

Temperatures in the southern part of the county are forecast to be in the upper 30s to lower 40s Sunday morning, National Weather Service meteorologist Anna Schneider said.

Monday morning temperatures will be in the mid 30s and Tuesday morning the lower 30s. Temperatures on Wednesday morning are forecast to be in the upper 30s to lower 40s, according to Schneider.
