Two people died in a crash in Fairfield early Wednesday morning, according to police.
The crash was reported at about 12:25 a.m. on Peabody Road north of Chuck Hammond Drive.
Officers arrived and found two vehicles on fire. Two people were unable to escape from one of the vehicles and were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The driver of the other vehicle escaped with burn injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment, according to police.
Officers are still at the scene this morning and said Peabody Road is expected to remain closed until at least 10 a.m. Police are advising motorists to take Vanden Road or Interstate Highway 80 as alternate routes around the area.
