Firefighters put out 8-acre vegetation fire

Firefighters put out a vegetation fire that sparked late Monday afternoon in southern Monterey County.

The grass and brush fire was reported at around 4 p.m. at Copperhead and Bryson Hesperia roads, west of Copperhead Creek, Cal Fire officials said Tuesday.

Three fire engines and 11 firefighters from South Monterey County Fire Protection District and Cal Fire responded to the fire, along with personnel from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.

Firefighters contained the “very smoky” fire to 8 acres at about 4:45 p.m., and put out the fire by 6 p.m., fire officials said.

No structures were damaged and firefighters did not initiate any evacuations or road closures. No injuries were reported, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
