BART recovering from systemwide delay

BART is recovering Tuesday morning from a systemwide delay caused by an earlier equipment problem on a train in the Transbay Tube.

At about 9 a.m., a San Francisco-bound train experienced a propulsion problem while in the tube, causing it to come to a stop, according to BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost.

The train’s operator then put the train under automatic control, allowing it to slowly move toward the Embarcadero station, where technicians were standing by, Trost said.

At the same time, a medical emergency aboard an East Bay-bound train occurred as the train was arriving at the Embarcadero station.

The two incidents combined contributed to delays of 10 minutes or more systemwide, according to Trost.

Both incidents have since been resolved and trains in both directions are now in recovery mode and service is expected to return to normal.
