Firefighters give gifts to children displaced by fire

Fire officials said a fire Sunday afternoon in a single-story, single-family home in Pleasanton displaced two adults and three children who will be getting Christmas gifts from firefighters.

Battalion Chief Mike Miller said firefighters were first told of the fire at 2:11 p.m. in the 4000 block of Mason Street.

The fire started in the garage and heat and smoke spread to the rest of the home, damaging the whole house, Miller said.

The family was not home when the fire started and none of the firefighters were injured.

But the home is so damaged that the family will be staying with people they know from their church.

Firefighters are providing toys to the three children for Christmas through the Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program, Miller said.

Firefighters with the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department deliver tens of thousands of toys to children annually, Miller said.
