Two die in fiery San Jose car crash

Two people died early this morning when the car they were in crashed into a wall in East San Jose, according to police.

At 4:11 a.m., officers responded to a report of a crash involving a vehicle that was on fire on South Capitol Avenue at Excalibur Drive, police said.

After a preliminary investigation, officers determined the vehicle was heading south on South Capitol Avenue when it struck a center divide and crashed into a sound wall along Capitol Expressway. The vehicle then caught fire, according to police.

Two people were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not been released.

The crash marks the fourth fatal vehicle accident to happen in the city since Friday.

A 17-year-old driver died Friday evening, at around 5:20 p.m. at Monterey Road and Daylight Way, when his car collided with another car.

Then Saturday morning, a pedestrian was fatally stuck during a hit-and-run at around 3:05 a.m. near East Hedding and North 15th streets.

Later that evening, a woman died when she fled from police in a stolen vehicle before crashing into a light pole at Fruitdale Avenue and St.

Elizabeth Drive at around 8:40 p.m., according to police.
