PG&E has capped a broken gas line damaged by a third-party contractor digging in San Francisco’s Dolores Heights neighborhood Thursday afternoon, according to a utility pokeswoman.
The gas leak in the area of Noe and Hill streets was first reported to PG&E around 12:20 p.m., according to utility spokeswoman Andrea Menniti.
Residents in the 700 block of Noe Street were asked to shelter in place while those in the 800 block of Noe and the 500 block of Hill were ordered to evacuate.
The evacuations and shelter in place orders were lifted shortly after 1 p.m.
Menniti said the 2-inch natural gas line was damaged by a third-party contractor digging at a residential work site in the area.
PG&E work crews will remain in the area making repairs for another hour or two, Menniti said shortly after 1:30 p.m.
