A technician for Cirque du Soleil died in an industrial accident during the pre-set of the show “Luzia” on Tuesday evening, circus officials said.
Officers responded to the reported accident in the Cirque du Soleil tent at Mission Rock and Third streets at about 6:45 p.m.
The man had been struck by a telescopic lift, according to Cirque du Soleil. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died, police said at 10:37 p.m.
Tuesday’s showing of “Luzia” was canceled.
Cirque du Soleil officials said in a statement Wednesday morning:
“It is with immense sadness that we report a fatal accident that occurred last night.”
The man’s identity has not been released pending the notification of his family.
