One injured when security guard shoots suspect outside movie theatre

Police said a person was injured when a security guard shot him Sunday evening outside a Concord movie theatre.

The shooting was first reported at 6:48 p.m. at the Brenden Theatres at Salvio and Galindo streets.

Concord police spokesman Cpl. Christopher Blakely said an altercation began inside the theatre between a security guard and another person who is a suspect in the incident.

Police don’t know yet why the suspect was in the theatre, but he allegedly said he had a gun and was going to kill the guard.

The guard chased the person outside where he told him to get down while pointing a gun at him, Blakely said.

The guard shot the suspect multiple times, Blakely said. The suspect was taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

The shooting took place in an alley between the theatre and a parking structure.

Police cleared the theatre and checked to see whether there were any other suspects. None were found and police closed the theatre for the night, Blakely said.

The guard cooperated with police, who took him to the police station to be interviewed. The streets in the area were reopened by 11:15 p.m.
