A Castro Valley man was shot dead outside of his home just after 6 p.m. Monday evening, according to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department.
Witnesses say they heard “multiple gunshots” near the corner of Redwood Rd. and Wilson Ave., and the Alameda County Sheriff responded with homicide detectives and a county coroner.
Sheriff spokesperson Sgt. Ray Kelly said that police are have not ruled out that the shooting was a drive-by shooting. Kelly said the Sheriff’s office assumes a vehicle was used at some point.
Kelly also said that the victim is a 37-year-old father, and that children were inside the residence when shots were fired. Nearby homes were also hit by gunfire, though nobody else was injured, Kelly said.
The victim’s family was on the scene by 7:30 p.m., grieving outside a nearby Bonfaire Market.
The market’s owner, who identified himself as Peter, told SFBay that surveillance cameras are only pointed inside the store, but that police have viewed the footage and determined it to be unhelpful to their investigation.
