Everett Highbaugh, 48, of Vallejo, was arrested Wednesday at 11:45 a.m. at his place of employment in the 500 block of Eighth St. in Oakland, Lt. Herman Robinson said.
Highbaugh was also arrested on suspicion of attempting to kill a Vallejo man who was with the woman who was killed. The man was critically injured but is expected to survive.
The deceased is Vallejo woman Kenesha Jackson, 36. Jackson died in the master bedroom of an apartment shortly after officers responded at 12:45 a.m. to reports of shots fired in the 600 block of Virginia Street, Robinson said.
Highbaugh got into the apartment by allegedly forcing his way in, Robinson said.
Highbaugh and Jackson’s children were in the apartment at the time of the shooting and were not hurt, according to Robinson.
The children have gone to stay with relatives.
