Two men arrested in Sebastopol bar fight

Two men were arrested in a Sebastopol bar Tuesday night after a police sergeant walked in on their fight.

Just before 10:15 p.m., a sergeant on foot patrol walked through the downtown bar Jasper O’Farrell’s, where he heard five people yelling on the back patio, police said.

The sergeant went out to the patio and allegedly saw 41-year-old Eric Meeker of Sebastopol attacking 41-year-old transient Damon May with a metal canister.

The sergeant called for backup and ordered Meeker and May to sit down, police said. May complied, but Meeker allegedly picked up a barstool and moved to attack May.

The sergeant immobilized Meeker with a Taser and then handcuffed him.

May got up and left the bar, despite the sergeant’s order not to, police said. Other police officers arriving as backup found May down the street and detained him.

Police determined that May was on probation in Sonoma County for driving under the influence. Both men were booked into the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of resisting, obstructing or delaying a peace officer.

May was also booked on suspicion of violating his probation, police said. Meeker was also booked on suspicion of assault and assault with a deadly weapon.
