Coast guard rescued four from sinking vessel

A Coast Guard crew rescued four boaters from a sinking vessel in the Sacramento River on Tuesday, Coast Guard officials said.

After the boaters contacted the Coast Guard for help at about 11:30 a.m., a crew on a 29-foot response boat rescued the four near Rio Vista. No injuries were reported.

A good Samaritan boater helped the rescue, according to officials.

The 70-foot, World War II-era landing craft is partially submerged and secured to a pier near Rio Vista, and doesn’t pose a threat to nearby traffic.

However, oil has been seen in the water around the vessel, so a diving and salvage company is assessing the pollution. The vessel’s owner said that 175 gallons of fuel are onboard.
